Rooted in Africa Shea butter has been used on the African continent for millenniums and is deeply rooted in the history and culture of wooded savanna from West Africa. Shea butter is mentioned in almost all historical documents in Africa, including a reference as early as Cleopatra's Egypt, which mentions caravans that carry shea butter clay jars for cosmetic use. Kings’ funeral beds were carved into wood of ancient shea trees, and shea butter has always been a staple of African pharmacology. The How Shea butter, commonly known as Karité, is derived from the Shea Nut Tree that grows in Africa's West Region. Shea butter is extracted from the African shea tree nut. The butter is a fatty oil which, at room temperature, remains solid but melts at body temperature. Shea butter in its raw form has an off white or ivory color which turns white when it is subjected to many processes. The shea tree nuts are big almost like the chestnuts. The nuts are collected and then dried and the outer shell is removed, the nut is then crushed by machines or one may use a pestle and mortar which was used in the traditional times in this case. The roasting process begins after crushing process. When roasted, the shea nut emits a smoky smell which is why it has the smoky scent as butter. The roasted shea nuts are the boiled in water that helps the butter to float onto it, making it ready for scooping and packing. So Many Uses Shea butter in its raw form contains a lot of properties which make it the best type of butter to treat many skin conditions. Shea butter can be used in all forms of massage, as it creates a frictionless but "easy grip" surface that allows the smoothest and most therapeutic deep tissue work. It is a great base for adding essential oils. Shea Butter cannot strip the skin of its natural oils because of its unsaponifiable origin and can help to stimulate collagen production. As such, it may be very helpful in alleviating wrinkles, scars, and burns. A Wonder Lotion Shea Butter is a hair dressing that can be used to moisturize a dry scalp and promote hair growth. Used as a pomade, it helps restrain the hairstyle and relax curls slightly. Shea Butter contains stigmasterol, the sterol known as the "anti-stiffness factor" which makes it useful in rheumatic cases. Shea butter contains a high cinnamic acid content that produces a mild natural sunscreen, around SPF-6. Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties that help to relieve the skin from irritation. The properties help soothe the skin from sunburns, eczema, psoriasis as well as maintain skin elasticity and reduce aging process. Shea butter improves collagen production found in the skin thus maintaining the elasticity of the skin. Read more

Product is amazing especially when I mix it with my coco butter and other essential oils.Clearly it's raw and pure. Will come back for more from this brand. So I usually buy my she’s butter wholesale in 1 gallon buckets, however it was out of stock. I needed more quick and gave this a shot. The picture showed a little 1 lb tub of butter, which I thought was perfect, and chose the 10 lb option, figuring it would just come in a larger tub or bucket like my usual supplier. When it arrived I opened the box to find a giant hunk in a plastic bag! I thought it was funny, it was not what I was expecting, that’s the only reason I took away a star. It’s difficult to store and keep fresh in the cardboard box/bag, I wish there had been a different picture for the 10 lb option.Amazing quality and value! I was very skeptical about buying this product since some reviews said it had a bad odor and was poor quality. I have purchased quality shea butter in the past from reputable sources for a lot more money and this is absolutely pure raw shea butter. The smell is absolutely raw shea butter. For someone who may not have used raw shea butter before, the smell may be a little strong but the shea butter I received is definitely raw shea butter and smells exactly as it should. I live in the high desert and needed a long lasting moisturizer that would last and is natural. This is perfect! It did come in a plastic bag (1st picture) as others have said but not a problem for me. It did come in big chunks (2nd picture) as others have said but I just cut it up into smaller chunks with a knife no problem. I whipped it (with an electric hand mixer) with oils such as coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and virgin olive oil. This was my first attempt at whipping it and I love the smooth creamy texture! I also added pure essential oils for scent such as vanilla, orange, and lavender. I did have to add more oils than I normally would to my homemade oil mix of coconut oil, grapeseed, olive oil, and avacado oil that I use daily. I highly recommend researching a recipe to whip it and you will be so happy you did! I will definitely buy again!Purchased months ago and I still have more than half. Definitely worth it.Lovely ivory color, no visible impurities. Good medium-solid consistency at room temp, but squeezable, and massages into skin in a minute or so. Left my hands feeling great; and my cuticles, which are currently a mess, less crispy. ;) Packaged in plastic bag inside sealed foil. Distinct scent - not unpleasant - when foil first opened, but that dissipated a lot after it got into the air. (Still in plastic bag.) Good odor, too. Nice and nutty, no rancid taint. Expiration date a year from now. After trying on my hands, can only catch a hint of fragrance from that, which I find pleasant. After massaging a minute or so, I left it while typing this. Felt a little bit buttery, but by now it's sunken in all the way, leaving no residue, just softness.I'm definitely going to keep some of it in original form for use as a butter. I'm a type 2 diabetic, and also have a heart condition, with permanent circulatory damage to one lower leg from a fall. As is, this will be really great caring for the skin on my feet and leg.I have purchased this and mango butter several times I Love this product always as expected! I add fragrance oil so the smell is ok with me!It is bad product. Makes cream like soap and the smell that leaves on the creams is like soap. Don’t like it !!!
