I'm very disappointed. The crock is as lovely as I hoped it would be; however, there is a crack in the lid after one day of use. I don't know for certain if it arrived this way or cracked when I put butter in it or when my daughter used it today. I wasn't rough with it at all, she might have been, I didn't see her use it. This is why I don't buy nice things. I should have purchased one of the $10 ones I saw, then who cares about a crack. I'm going to keep it and move on. Lesson learned. It still works for now anyway. I'll reinforce it with super glue or something so the crack doesn't expand. End of whine/rant.Keepers butter well also the instructions were tight on I was disappointed in colors an that the lid didn't match butter keeper The one shown was a crystal glaze.I'm loving this little butter dish! I always wanted one, but most are made overseas and I wasn't interested. We switched back to butter a few years ago and hate hard butter, love it at room temperature, but had no "safe" way to keep it. I've been using the French Butter Dish for about a month and have had no problem. Butter stays in the bell and is always the right temperature. No mold or other mentioned problems so far. I do change the water at least every other day and often add an ice cube to the water. When we leave town for an extended period I set the bell in the fridge and give the bowl a chance to dry and air. Once I forgot over a 7 day trip, but all was well when we returned, just prefer to put it away if we are going to be away for a few days. Just be sure to pack the butter well into the bell. When I replenish, I scrape out the original butter, refill with fresh, and then put the original on top...rotate your stock! If your butter gets a little to soft when you are refilling, just set the bell in the fridge for a few minutes before replacing it in the water bowl. Mine looks great on my quartz counter tops, much better than the plastic container we were using!Updated - we enjoy this so much that we’ve given two as gifts. Everyone really likes it. Note the blue is much lighter and less shiny than in the picture, but I think the lighter blue is prettier.Gave this to my husband for Christmas. He likes it very much and showed it off to his friends. We've been enjoying butter spread on our toast with breakfast. Quality/color is very pretty. It's bigger than I expected. Holds about 1 1/2 sticks of butter. For our purposes I think slightly smaller would have been perfect since we don't usually go through that much butter. This keeper keeps the butter spreadable and has the correct shape to hold the butter. Most of this type of keeper has a bowl shape for the butter. Thus when the top is inverted into the bottom the butter falls out. This keeper has a volcano shape so that the opening is smaller than the bottom. You can pack the butter in. The kitchen has reached 80 degrees, the butter did not fall out and the butter is still tasty.I love this butterkeeper. It's as attractive in person as I expected it to be. It's one of the few that fits more than 1 stick of butter. 1 1/2 sticks comfortably. Looks beautiful on the table. A little spendy but good quality. I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" - most of the time. The only thing I would change is that the glaze be brought through the bottom of the receptacle piece. The bottom is a bit rough so I have to put it on a little coaster when it's on my wood table to protect the finish. Hence the 4 stars. Outside of that - I love it! Yes, I would give it as a gift.It keeps butter fresh and soft. I like that it's handmade in the USA.We love it! Why did I wait so long to get it? Soft butter is awesome on toast, warm rolls, and fresh bread. I can get a half-pound of butter in this dish. I learned the first day using it that it's important to press the soft butter as far into the dish as possible. The soft butter is held in the lid (upside-down) by surface tension, so maximum contact with the dish is critical. Otherwise, your butter, like mine, will fall into the water. The easy fix is to retrieve the floating butter and pack it all the way into the dish. Be sure that the water contacts the lid to ensure a seal from air contacting butter. Worth every penny! Lovely workmanship tops it all off. Great purchase!!
